Senior Pastor’s Position

The Senior Minister will not only love and live out the Word of God but also love teaching it with creativity and conviction.  The senior minister will be a strong communicator, accurately relating Biblical truth in meaningful and relevant ways.

  • This position reports to the Elders of the Church.

  • Primarily works from the church office.

  • Will liaise with the Church Secretary to ensure effective coordination of administration functions of the church.

  • The Youth and Young Adults Pastor reports to the Senior Minister.

  • The primary point of contact for general church matters.

Essential Criteria

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a Theological College recognised by Churches of Christ in NSW & ACT.

  • Preferably a fully endorsed minister with Churches of Christ in NSW & ACT, or be suitably qualified to achieve endorsement as a minister with Churches of Christ in NSW & ACT within an agreed timeframe. 

Experience, Skills and Knowledge

  • Proven ministry experience - a minimum of five years in a paid ministry role.

  • Strong Biblical knowledge.

  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills.

  • Effective communication skills.

  • Proven ability to work in a team environment

  • Strong management and organisational skills.

 Licences or Certificates

  • Holds a current NSW Working with Children Certificate, or eligibility to obtain one.

  • Clears a current National Police Check.

  • Current Creating Safe Spaces certificate (or willing to get one)

  • Seek to become a celebrant after endorsement with Churches of Christ in NSW & ACT

  • The legal right to work in Australia.

  • Holds an Australian Drivers Licence

  • A person who is called by God, is a baptised believer, and who humbly relies on God’s wisdom and strength. 

  • A spiritually mature person of prayer and private devotion.

  • Will be excited about leading our church in its desire to continue to grow in spiritual maturity and in spreading the message throughout our community that Jesus saves.

  • Agrees with our church mission statement and church doctrinal statement.

  • Is willing and flexible to work closely with the Elders and Ministry Leaders.

  • Maintain and further develop professional knowledge and skills.

 Duties & Responsibilities

 Spiritual & Pastoral Leadership

  • Provide spiritual leadership to Asquith Church in all aspects of ministry.

  • A humble dependence on God’s wisdom and strength, through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

  • A person of prayer, Christian character, discipleship and evangelism.

  • Provide general oversight of the church’s ministry.

Preaching / Teaching

  • Main preacher – responsible for the majority of Sunday sermons, setting out themes for all services and generating the preaching roster every quarter.

  • Will love this church, teach God’s Word faithfully and lead with humility.

  • Theologically sound in Bible teaching

 Leadership

  • Supervise Youth and Young Adults Pastor.

  • Assist, equip and encourage people to find their gifts and to use them in serving God in the church and community.

  • Oversee all existing and new church activities including:

  • Our Mission Op Shop, (open Monday to Friday, and half day on Saturdays), is staffed by volunteers primarily from our fellowship and other local churches.  Op Shop profits are used to support various local and overseas Christian mission activities.

  • Play Group on Tuesdays.

  • English Conversational class on Thursday afternoons.

  • Adult and young adult Care Groups

  • Youth Group on Friday evenings.

  • Supervise the Worship Team

  • Have effective communication skills

  • Conduct baptisms, weddings and funerals.

  • Champion and uphold safe ministry practices, with a concern for safeguarding children, youth and vulnerable adults.

  • Fulfil requirements under NSW legislation, particularly as the Head of Relevant Entity under the Reportable Conduct Scheme.

 Mission / Evangelism

  • Lead our yearly, combined churches Christmas event, of Carols in the Park, for the local community.

  • Foster other opportunities for church events and evangelism as a church body.

  • Musical ability

  • Living locally

  • Experience in applying for Grants, Church building programs or developments.
